This bright and colorful Russian lacquer box is inlaid with an entire shell of Mother of Pearl which creates a reflection off the lid. Russian lacquer boxes are famous for the many layers of painting and the layers of lacquer between each layer of painting. These numerous layers give the 3D impression of depth. Some boxes have over 10 layers of lacquer between the layers of paint.
The Mother of Pearl is inlaid into the papier-mache lid before painting. This box is signed by the artist and the style of painting - FEDOSKINO - are written on the bottom of the box and the red interior is beautiful
