This model depicts the M272 casemate employed at the Longues-sur-Mer artillery battery in Normandy. Its design boasts a fortified rectangular structure with thick concrete walls and a substantial gun aperture on the front. The layout incorporates sloped blast walls and a flat roof, characteristic of German coastal defenses along the Atlantic Wall, designed to accommodate 15 cm naval guns. Constructed by German forces between 1943 and 1944, the Longues-sur-Mer battery, part of Widerstandsnest (Wn) 48, featured four M272 bunkers, each housing a 15 cm TbtsK C/36 gun originally intended for naval use. Positioned between Omaha and Gold Beach, these guns were controlled by a nearby Feuerleitstand observation bunker. On D-Day, 6 June 1944, the battery targeted Allied ships and landing forces, continuing to fire even after aerial and naval bombardment. The site was ultimately captured on 7 June by British troops. Longues-sur-Mer stands as one of the best-preserved coastal batteries in Normandy, with several M272 casemates still intact.
