Artist Profile

Keiichi Tanaami Profile: Born in Tokyo in 1936. Graduated from the Design Department of Musashino Art University. Since the 1960s, he has transcended the boundaries of media and genres, working not only within the framework of commercial art such as design and illustration, but also in animation, experimental film, and a wide range of works including paintings and sculptures, making him a pioneer of the modern, variable artist image and greatly influencing young artists around the world. In the 60s, he created the Japanese album jackets for the legendary rock bands "The Monkees" (Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd, 1967) and "Jefferson Airplane" (After Bathing At Baxters, 1967), which are highly regarded as representative works of psychedelic art. From 1975, he served as the first art director of the monthly magazine "PLAY BOY," leaving behind work that led the Japanese underground scene. He has also been a professor at Kyoto University of Art and Design since 1991.
